Designed by James Smith, Rowaleyn, in Rhu near Helensburgh, commanded a rich view of the Gareloch and the Clyde Estuary. It had been the Smith family home for only two years when Madeleine was charged with the murder of Emile L'Angelier. Rowaleyn viewed from the gardens
